Stenema nematodes against sciarid larvae

You can easily and effectively combat sciarid larvae with nematodes. Stenema contains active Steinernema Feltiae nematodes (nematodes) that parasitize the larvae of sciarid flies. This kills the larvae and prevents adult mourning flies from developing.

How many nematodes do I need?

Normally, a small package of Stenema for 10 m² is sufficient to treat all your indoor plants. You can treat a total of 500 liters of potting soil with this packaging. So you can already have some houseplants! Only people with an overgrown collection or a very heavy infestation need packaging for 100 m² (5000 liters of potting soil).
How quickly does Stenema work?

Everything depends on how severe your infestation is. If you have a lot of black flies, you have to be patient for 2 to 3 weeks before all the larvae in the potting soil will be infected. In case of minor damage, the problem may be resolved after a few days.

A second factor here is the amount of nematodes you give. If you overdose because you have few plants, you will see results faster. Overdosing is therefore not harmful! If you have a severe infestation, we even recommend overdosing.
This is how you use nematodes against mourning flies

Moisten the potting soil of the houseplants beforehand.
Dissolve nematodes in water and dilute if necessary (depending on the number of pots).
Pour the mixture onto the wet potting soil of all your houseplants, even those that are not yet affected should be treated.
Keep potting soil moist as long as mourning flies are visible.

With this method, the product will be active in the soil for 4 weeks to kill the midge larvae present. Nematodes can be used in the house all year round. Stenema nematodes can be used outdoors from a soil temperature of 10 to 12 ° C.

What if I don’t get rid of my mourning flies?

It is rare that people do not get rid of their mourning flies. We do occasionally see that people no longer have problems after a few weeks, but that the problem returns after a month or more. This can happen:

If you bring in a new infestation with herb plants or new house plants.
If you sow or grow a lot of plants yourself: this automatically attracts mourning flies.
