The Emerald Triangle

Everyone knows that California produces some of the best cannabis in the world. In the Northern part of California, where Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties come together, cannabis is cultivated in abundance. That´s why it is called the Emerald Triangle.

You can find the world’s most prized and respected gas selections in the Emerald Triangle. There is a dense community of world-class commercial and top-shelf cultivators, so the Triangle serves as the home to many breeders in the boutique-breeding scene.

Mandelbrot AKA Ras Truth

One of the most influential breeders in Emerald history is Mack Anderson creator of the infamous Royal Kush line.

Famously known by his counter-culture aliases Mack was also known by, Mandelbrot and Ras Truth. He and his cultivars are a legend . These were the first strains with the diesel fuel terpene profile that has now become synonymous with Humboldt County and the Emerald Triangle in general.

After distributing the first clones of OG Kush and Sour Diesel in Humboldt County, Mandelbrot developed his own cultivars that became so widely propagated they are now esteemed as the foundation for the Emerald Triangle’s world-famous gasoline-scented high-grade.

Story of the Royal Kush

The Royal Kush is arguably the culimantion of Mandelbrot’s breeding work. Which he described as “an indica-dominant hybrid of an old school southern Humboldt Purple Kush, the real Sour Diesel, and a pre-Soviet Highland Afghani.” Royal Kush has an earthy flavor, overtones of diesel fuel and gasoline, skunk spray, rose water and fermented grapes. The high is cerebral, sedative and deeply meditative. Royal Kush earned its early reputation through its unique terpene profile and unrivaled potency but should also be known for its pest and disease resistance and its tendency to pass on its unique vigor and fuel forward terpenes to anything it touches. As such, Royal Kush has long been and will continue to be the centerpiece of the breeding program of Emerald Mountain Legacy.

His most famous work to date is an elite cutting selected by himself from a sea of 3000 starts from the original Royal Kush F1 seed stock. Bred on the Mendocino coast and further developed in Northern Humboldt, the Royal Kush was the first cultivar overwhelmingly transcend both worlds of extreme fuel funk and fruit.

For growers she was often described as the end-all-be-all of kush plants. Large yields screaming of gas, no pests, no mold, and flowers stacking into bluish-purple pillows covered in white snow finished with a photoperiod of only 50-55 days versus the 70-75 days required for most OG’s and Sours.

As time progressed, Mandelbrot would continue his search for the original F1 clone and dedicate himself to increasing the long-term genetic diversity of his collections until his untimely death in 2015

He was one of the most prolific organic farmers on Mendocino and Humboldt. Ahead of his time, he was among the first to recognize the power of 100% organic biodynamic based indoor commercial farming and predominantly plant-based eco-conscious fertilizer inputs.

The Organic way

At a time when it was difficult to find educational resources for cannabis breeders and cultivators due to widespread prohibition, Mandelbrot openly shared knowledge and techniques, encouraging other breeders and cultivators to build on his knowledge to continually elevate the industry standard for quality cannabis.  He was an early proponent of sustainable, sun grown organic cannabis cultivation methodologies. Through his organic growing expertise, he helped to demonstrate that the best cannabis in the world comes from organic living soil and the sun, rather than synthetic fertilizers and HID lamps. Leading by example, he helped to spur the collaborative cannabis culture that exists around the world today. 

Genetics continue

Emerald Mountain Legacy is dedicated to preserving and continuing the legendary work of Mandelbrot, famous for bringing diesel fuel genetics to Northern California. 

Mandelbrot was a visionary whose contributions to cannabis breeding live on throughout the Emerald Triangle and around the world.  In his absence, his younger brothers Ben and Bogie are following in his footsteps- making sure these prized seeds remain available to the public as well as developing new variations to suit the ever-evolving cannabis consumer market.

Team Emerald Mountain

Team Emerald Mountain, as they like to call themselves, has two lines of seeds available to the public: Emerald Mountain Legacy and Mandelbrot’s Family Heirlooms.  Each with different end users in mind.

The Emerald Mountain Legacy line is intended for seed enthusiasts who appreciate subtle variances in phenotype and may want to do some level of breeding on their own.  It is also well suited to those who want to find their favorite phenotype and keep it around as a clone. While the team is careful to cull sexually unstable progeny and to avoid undesirable traits, these seeds are not refined in the same way as the higher end line of seeds.  The intent is to allow for some level of variation so that the consumer can explore some variance within the boundaries which are set out for them with these selections. Because these seeds took less time and energy to create, they are offered at a very affordable rate. 

Mandelbrot’s Family Heirlooms is the name given to our high-end line of seeds. This title and the lengthy process required to produce these boutique seeds is reserved for the most coveted lines. They were meticulously refined over many generations to lock in the desirable traits they were bred for.  These seeds, refined by Mandelbrot himself, offer something truly special in their attributes and are guaranteed to produce a stable and consistently positive result. They come with a higher price point and a satisfaction guarantee.
